Children conditions at the time

In that time if you were a lucky boy with a lucky parents too, you had a good education in a school, a good diet an other advantages.
But everything can be different if you are an orphan. You didn’t have any opportunity, you must in an orphanage. Place that all the children must work all the day with poor conditions. If one boy  doesn't  want work the responsable person beat the boy until he start working.

Children conditions at the time. Do you think orphans were treated propriety ?

In Victorian ages, the children were living in bad conditions, they had to work very hard in the factories and a lot of hours to earn a low salary.

Sometimes the kids had to steal rich people to survive, for example, in the film, many children were kidnapped from an organization that used the boys to steal jewellery or food in the markets.

Many of the boys who worked in the factories were being subjected to hunger and dangers of the machines of different types of industry, and many of them died.

The orphans were treated very bad in the Victorian ages, their host families gave them the minimum food and had few clothes.

8th February 1879

Dear Diary,
Today I learned how to steal. Maybe you think I’m a bad person but Fagin is a nice man and he steals too. He gives me food and boys treat me so well… I hope I will stay here and I won’t return to the workhouse, even if I’m afraid of Bill. He has a horrible dog, he loves yelling to Nancy and he is more scaring than the “big pigs” with all their money and power. He deserves death and hell.

Tomorrow I’m going with Dodger to the market. I haven’t gone outside yet, I’m thrilled and scared, what if the police catch us and I must return? I’m preying for tomorrow to be an excellent day.
I can smell the sausages! I’m going to dinner now!
See you tomorrow.

the new boy in the school

                                                                                           7th of March 1870.

Dear Diary:

Today I have gone to school at 7:00 o’clock.
In the middle of the first class a new boy arrived and the other boys were looking at him. This child came from another school and already knew a friend of my school, my friend told me that this child was outed to his old school and I am the other friends we talked.
When I arrived home, I explained it to my mother and she said to me that I had to help this boy to make some friends. The next afternoon, when I arrived in the school, I talked to the new boy and I said to him that I would help him to make some new friends, and he thanked it to me. And after that, he started to be a very happy boy.

Oliver's diary

6th of February of 1879
Dear diary,
Today it has been a difficult day. After walking a lot of miles, I’ve arrived to London very tired with my broken shoes. I’m very hungry because I haven’t eaten anything during my travel to London. I don’t know anybody, there are many people that steal here. Some of those thieves have given me accommodation, but I feel bad. I think that it can be better, but it can also be worse. Tomorrow I will leave to find a better place. But I’m not sure that I will get it.
I hope I’ll write you soon.

Oliver Twist

- Do you think that Oliver Twist was properly treated by his host families?

We think that Oliver Twist in his host family was ill-treated because they gave him trush food and they had another son who made Oliver Twist’s life harder than it was, the only person who supported him in this family was the father who helped him but sometimes without wanting, he hit Oliver because her wife ordered him.
The family’s son always saying bad things to Oliver such as: “your mother is a bad woman”, and then he started to hit the boy and it made Oliver’s step mother think that he was a bad boy, that he was a rebel, a bad child,…
We think that Oliver in this family was socially excluded because he can do nothing, he couldn’t talk, he had to sleep under a table and finally they ground him to live like in a prison.

Dear diary

Yesterday, I had a very complicated day because when I woke up, me and my friends from the orphan, we made a raffle to decide who had to ask for more meal.
I losed the raffle and when we were eating in the dinning room I had to ask for more food to the Sir.
Immediately, the Sir. sayed: "Are you asking for more food?", and then he became angry. Then, he took me to another room, we had a dispute and the orphanage's owners decided to expel me from it.
A man who worked for the Sir. took me to a family who adopted me.

Now, I'm in the dinning room of my new house and I'm starving and very sad. I hope they are going to offer me something for dinner and tomorrow I'll be more strong to write more, so let's see tomorrow and let's see if I can explain you good news.

Oliver Twist. Do you think that Oliver was properly treated by his host families?

Oliver Twist was a child who lived in the ninetieth century. He was an orphan with very bad luck because he went to live in a lot of places.
The first place where he lived was in the orphanage where the officers took advantage of children’s poor conditions. They gave them very little portions of food and the children were starving. The next place where he went to was the house of a business man who treated Oliver very well but he had a discussion with the assistant’s son and he had to escape and go to London. On the stayed he was at a very old woman’s house that was very kind with Oliver. The next day he went on his way to London again and when he arrived he went to a house where a lot of Children lived for free if they stole things for the owners.
He was treated very bad there, and one day, he went to steal people on the street but he couldn’t and an old man picked him at his house and there, he lived well, the old people of the house helped him with all he needed.

the working children

We are going to do a description about the parking children. Many people, caught orphan children and bring they them to bad orphanages or workhouses. In the orphanages, the children wark very hard, and the food is very horrigle. They sleep people or more in the same room. They wake up at  6:00 a clock to wark. Dennis and me are very angry with this, because in this type of sitiation the gentlemen don’t respect the children’s rights of the children.

We thinkthat in a family when an accident happens, the best think they can do is to take bring the child to his aunts or grandfathers and grandmothers, or bring the child to you best friend or something like this…

The working children

A lot of children are obligated to work in a lot of countries, because they can’t have access to education, and their families need money to live. They must work in factories with inhuman conditions, they work twenty hours a day, without enough food, and they must sleep in the factory, and they don’t have holidays.
This factories are from famous marcks such as MC’ Donalds, DKNY, Samsung, Coca-Cola…. They use children to work, because they aren’t expensive, because her salary is very low. They’re a lot of ONG that fights against that children explotation, for example: EWE, SOS… But there are too many explotation to let NGO’s succes

London at the time

London in the 18th century was the period where major changes in agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, and technology had a profound effect on the socioeconomic and cultural conditions of the times. There was an economical increase in London due to the industrial revolution. The society was divided in different social clases. The poor class had the worst living conditions, they had to live in poor houses with rats and dirtiness. It was very hard to live in this conditions, however the aristochratic families and tne rich people lived like kings, they lived i houses that seemed mansions with lot of people working for them. The rich people only stayed in touch with people who had the same economic class and they left poor people behind.

Imagine that you are Oliver.Write a page for your diary.

Dear Diary,

I can't stand more, it is horrible, if I spend are minute more next to Mr. Bumble, I will explode, He's stupid, but he tell is the owner of the orphanages.

Today, I talk to my friends, to didn't them the portions but any friends didn't to talk to him, because is a bad man, and use to shout to all, and we did a raffle to do it, but I losed, and tomorrow during the dinner, I am going to talk to him, it is my oportunity to explode, but he is a terrifyng man and I'm frightened, because it maybe the last time that I shout, and it's for this, that I decide to say goodbye, becaise I can't guess Mr Bumble's.

Seriously, diary, goodbye, I'm ready for all, this situation must come to it's end and the are kids who must order what they must or mustn't do.

Children condition

At Oliver's time, orphans were treated dreadfully by their host families.

They thought they weren't supposed to take care of them like they would have done if they were their own children. They gave them not as much food as they needed, so the orphans were always starving.

They made them work as hard as an adult should work but in terrible conditions that threatened their health and they life.

They didn't even have a proper place to sleep and their host families didn't give them much place to do so.

In many cases, the orphans didn't have the chance to grow up in a regular house, so they had to stay in the workhouses, where they had to work harder, they could eat less food and they had to share everything with a lot of children that didn't have another place to go.

Unfortunately, all the children living in that period of time, excluding the rich ones, didn't have any chances to be safe and happy, as they didn't have any rights protecting them and their daily situations were extremely difficult.
